I have Mach 4 - hobby, C82 - dual-port multifunction board - torch height control - PlasmaSensOut

I had installed and purchased a hobby license.

Mach4Hobby_Installer-4.2.0.4612

ESS_Mach4_v278.1

The X axis, Y axis and Z axis worked correctly. When I connected and turned on the HC

the signals for the HC come to me and I see them on the screen as the indicator light lights up, but the Z axis does not respond to them. Even though I have the HC switched to manual control, the Z axis does not respond.

I tried everything I could think of but the HC did not work.

I have been struggling with this problem for a very long time.

Please update the Warp9 plugin to the 320.

I cannot find any clean instructions for you. But the info and files that you see here will work for you:
https://www.cnc4pc.com/knowledge/article/102

It is just that they may have too much clutter or things that you do not need. But the screen and basic THC configuration will work.

You can also follow the documentation from the Warp9 website. Keep in mind that it is the ESS that is doing the THC action.

If you still cannot get it working, please let me know, and I will set up something for you.

I know they call for older Mach4 and ESS Plugin versions, but it should run fine with 5920 and 320.

We need to update those. Please let me know how it goes.

I haven't made any progress at all, I checked and everything is set according to the manuals.
I have a mach4 5920 installed.
The main problem I have with plugin 320 is that with this plugin and plugin 298 my Z axis does not move in jogging mode.
I can only move the Z axis in jogging mode in plugin 278_1.
with plugin 278_1 I see the current position on the screen as the numbers in the Z axis section change, and the axis also physically moves and the motor rotates.
with plugin 298 and 320 I see the current position on the screen as the numbers in the Z axis section change, but the axis also physically does not move and the motor does not rotate - it stands still.
The X and Y axes move in every plugin. I don't understand why.
I use screen CNC4PC_Plasma_V2.set

Here I used the plugin v278_1 and the screen SS_HC_v06 .set. In jogging mode I can move the x,y and Z axes but when I switch to HC control the Z coordinates don't change on the screen and the motor doesn't move either. Here is the log.

I have purchased a license for Mach 4.
ARC OK signal is always set to OK for testing. THC signals are coming to my system. I see them on the monitor as the THC UP and THC down lights light up.
I used this screen as described in the instructions

I also reinstalled Mach 4 on the latest vs. 5920 .

Regarding the plugin, I have another problem. When I have the ESS_Mach4_v278.1 plugin installed and the plasma configured. I can move in jogging mode with the X axis, Y axis and Z axis. All motors move in manual mode as they should. I don't change anything in the configuration, I just install a new plugin {I take 2 files from the new plugin, copy them to the place where they should be and delete the old one}. In Mach 4 I see that I have the plugin ESS_Mach4_v320. And in jogging mode I can't move the Z axis. The x and Y axes work correctly but the Z axis doesn't move at all. When I change the plugin back to ESS_Mach4_v278.1 the Z axis works beautifully in jogging mode. I don't understand what's going on at all. That's why I already have Mach4 installed on 5920 but the plugin ESS_Mach4_v278.1. I also wrote on the Mach 4 forum. They helped me and we worked out this:

2. m3 script. You can find this in your C:/Mach4Hobby/Profiles/{Profile Name}/Macros/m3.mcs

So this is a custom setup by CNC4PC. This means that they are not using our logic to handle THC. I would recommend reaching out to them for support, they typically do a great job supporting their customers.

I will not be able to directly tell how they handle torch up and torch down with this. It looks like it is directly editing registers and I am assuming a different file is handling the core logic of how THC is handled with this version.

There are many ways of setting this up.  Since you are using the ESS, I would use the Warp9 Plasma screen to handle the discrete signals.  The original plasma screen will not work for you.

Here are other considerations:

  • Make sure that Mach4 is licensed.  This is a requirement.
  • Make sure that the ARC OK signal and THC LED activates.
  • This is well-documented in the ESS documentation.
  • I would also recommend upgrading Mach4 to 5920 and the ESS plugin to 320.   MachMotion has done a great job of cleaning Mach4.
